Standards for Institutional Financial Aid Recipients
Students receiving institutional financial aid must remain eligible under the terms of their awards and maintain satisfactory academic progress.
Satisfactory Academic Progress
Eligibility for institutional financial aid is based on the College’s standards for Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP), as established in the Academic Progress policy. These standards address course load, satisfactory completion of attempted coursework, cumulative grade point average, maximum credits attempted, and progress within the student’s academic program.
Additional GPA Requirement
In addition to maintaining satisfactory academic progress, an individual scholarship, grant, or other award may establish a GPA requirement higher than the minimum GPA required under the College’s SAP standards. When an award establishes a higher GPA requirement, that requirement governs eligibility for the award.
An award-specific GPA requirement applies to the renewal and continuation of institutional financial aid. Initial eligibility for a new student is determined through the College’s financial aid application and award process.
Financial Aid Eligibility (FAE) Review
The College reviews each financial aid recipient’s academic progress and continued eligibility at the end of each semester.
A student who does not maintain satisfactory academic progress may be placed on academic probation under the College’s Academic Progress policy. During the probationary semester, the student may continue to receive institutional financial aid, subject to the terms and conditions of the student’s award.
A student who maintains satisfactory academic progress but does not meet a higher award-specific GPA requirement may also lose or receive conditional continuation of the award, according to its terms.
If the student does not reestablish satisfactory academic progress or meet the applicable award-specific requirements by the end of the permitted probationary or conditional period, the student’s institutional financial aid will be suspended or discontinued beginning with the following semester.
Restoration of Financial Aid Eligibility
A student whose institutional financial aid has been suspended or discontinued may reapply after:
- reestablishing satisfactory academic progress;
- meeting any applicable award-specific GPA requirement; and
- satisfying all other applicable award requirements.
Reestablishing eligibility does not guarantee that institutional financial aid will be awarded or restored. The student must also satisfy applicable application deadlines, enrollment requirements, award conditions, and funding-availability limitations.
Award-Specific Requirements
Individual scholarships, grants, or other awards may have additional requirements, such as:
- full-time enrollment;
- annual reapplication;
- participation in a designated academic program;
- a specified grade point average; or
- other academic, financial, or program-related conditions.
When the published terms of a particular award establish requirements higher than the College’s general satisfactory academic progress standards, the award-specific requirements govern continued eligibility for that award.
